Mangawhai and Pakiri have finished for the year with no chicks. The chick at Papakanui is now flying around with its parents.
At Waipu there a pair of busy parents feeding 2 chicks, one of which hatched from an egg at Mangawhai when parents deserted the nest during a storm.
The 8 chicks hatched at the zoo are in the aviary on the dunes and doing well. DOC Rangers are busy providing them with suitable fish which they take themselves from a shallow tray. They are practising flying a little more so most will soon be ready to be released.
